Text Box: ZenshoAn U.S.A. and ShitoKan International welcomes everyone seeking the true practice in a traditional Japanese environment under the direction of Dr. Aiello, Senior Dharma Leader, who received Homyo (Dharma name) from Sensei Ogui of the Jodo Shin Shu or Pure Land Buddhism School. Rev. Ogui is an 18th generation Buddhist priest who has lived in the U.S. for over 35 years and is the Socho (Bishop) of the Buddhist Churches of America after having served as a trustee of the Parliament of World Religions based in Chicago.
ZenshoAn Temple was founded by Yamaoka Tesshu in 1883. Tesshu Sensei was a Statesman who served as a consultant to Emperor Meiji, ushering out the Samurai era in Japan. Tesshu was recognized as one of Japan's last great swordsmen and a Master of three ways: Swordsmanship (Muto Ryu Kancho); Shodo (calli-graphy); and Zen master (Rinzai Shu). Today, Tesshu's calligraphies adorn Zensho-An Temple in Tokyo and are considered true prizes to Shodo collectors throughout the world.
In 2004, Daito Ryu Menkyo Kaiden Katsuyuki Kondo Sensei presented an original Tesshu calligraphy to ShitoKan International and ZenshoAn U.S.A. bringing together Tesshu, Japan Daito Ryu, and Zen in the U.S.A. Many thanks to Ogui Sensei, Hirai Sensei, and Kondo Sensei.
